“This project was quite a challenge. I'm currently in my final semester of my undergraduate degree in archaeology, which demands a great deal of time. However, I couldn't pass up this opportunity to participate in an art project that sought to merge two of my favorite themes: ancient Egypt and pre-Hispanic cultures. Creating my pieces was a profound internal journey from my artistic perspective. I began experimenting with shapes, textures, and styles I had never explored before. The ideas began to flow in my mind from the very first moment, and bringing them to life and seeing them completed has been one of my greatest satisfactions. It was of utmost importance to me to meet the deadlines and exceed the expectations of an audience that anticipated seeing a high-quality work in a venue as prestigious as a national museum. My vision was not only to bring the project to the Egypt hall at the National Museum of World Cultures, but also to embody the personification of deities resulting from the fusion of these two important cultures, separated by both space and time. The creation of headdresses, masks, and helmets was the solution to this need. I am eternally grateful to those who helped personify these gods, five people who are not only classmates at university, but also dear friends. Each hybrid god was assigned according to the personalities of these individuals, among whom I joined by portraying the magnificent Anubis-Xolotl. As a result, there was interaction with the public, which enhanced the visitor experience of our exhibition on opening day.

Finally, I would like to make a special mention of one of my pieces on display, La Trajinera Solar (The Solar Boat). It was the last of the works I created for the gallery. The boat is very important because it is the culmination of the journey I mentioned earlier, and this is reflected in its decorations and finishes. The creation process took a month, during which I dedicated myself exclusively to its creation. Muertos de Egipto will forever be etched in my heart, and I only hope that the next life is as wonderful as this one.”

Originally from Mexico City, Iztapalapa.

I have been dedicating myself to cardboard making for nine years, my first piece was a monumental alebrije for the parade and competition of monumental alebrijes organized by the Museum of Popular Art, from there I have been practicing and learning new manufacturing techniques. I continued competing in different contests, alebrijes, piñatas and costumes to mention a few categories. Thanks to my participation in these contests I have had visibility which led me to collaborate with a mezcal brand “Incróspito” for whom I made a piece inspired by their logo, of this same piece, later I made three more replicas, which are located in CDMX, Oaxaca and Baja California. I currently teach cardboard workshops at the National Museum of World Cultures in Mexico City, making pieces inspired by the rooms of said museum, catrinas, mosaics, vases and piñatas are some examples. I have also had a space at the Minera Palace Museum in Mexico City, where attendees painted a skull for the Dia de Muertos festival.
